A. Wayne Place Memorial Scholarship
In 1991, the Rubber Division, ACS established the A. Wayne Place Memorial Scholarship in memory of the former chairman of Jasper Rubber. This scholarship provides an annual stipend to employees of the rubber industry to further their education in polymer technology. Production personnel are eligible for the scholarship. The next award from this fund will be used to sponsor attendance at the workshops offered at the 2003 Fall Technical Meeting and Mini-Expo in Cleveland, Ohio. The workshops have not yet been finalized. Those selected to receive the scholarship will receive:
-Transportation costs
-Meeting and workshop registration
-Hotel room fees
for the duration of the workshop.
We are asking each Rubber Group to submit the name of ONE person to be considered for this scholarship. Recipients need not be members of the Rubber Division or your Rubber Group. You may solicit names from rubber manufacturers or related industries by whatever method you choose (e.g., interview, award for service to the industry or rubber group, need). The Education Committee selects recipients based of the following criteria:
-Length of employment in rubber industry and with current employer
-Applicability of the workshops to job function
-Academic achievements
-Strength of recommendation letters received from supporting rubber group
-Location
Because this award is targeted for employees who do not normally have the opportunity to attend Rubber Division meetings, the education committee gives special consideration to non-college graduates.
In order to be considered, the attached form must be returned to the Rubber Division Office by May 1, 2003. The number of awards will depend on travel costs at the time of the meeting, but it is the intention of the Rubber Division to award at least two scholarships this year.
If you have any questions or require further information, please feel free to call Victoria George at 330-972-6938.
